Orchard House was completed in 2001 at a contract value of £900,000. A new residential block for students it's contemporary form was designed to sit comfortably into a historic landscape comprising buildings dating from the thirteenth century onwards. The long terrace form of the building completes the series of residential courtyards previously designed by Baart Harries Newall. Student rooms are grouped around communal facilities such as shower rooms, a kitchen and toilets. The half landing to the upper floor is fully glazed providing dramatic views over the Wrekin. A staff house is incorporated into the design to provide pastoral care for students on campus.
The new walled garden is sunk into the existing bank providing a private setting close to the student hall of residence. |
