A timber-framed teaching block with sustainability at its heart

Shrewsbury Sixth Form’s riverside Priory campus required a new teaching block which demonstrated a concern for sustainability.

We responded to this green agenda by designing a highly insulated and well-sealed timber framed building with Cedar cladding, which would house four classrooms, a geography laboratory, a common area for students and a staff room.

  • CLIENT Shrewsbury Sixth Form College
LOCATION Priory Road, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, SY2 6AA
    CONSTRUCTION VALUE:
    £800,000

Prefabricated insulated cassette panels were used for the walls and roof of the building, minimising the carbon footprint of the construction process as well as the cost with the timber frame of the building being erected in just three weeks to meet the college’s tight delivery programme.

“Our initial requirement was for an eye-catching building which would also create inspiring spaces for the highest quality teaching and learning.  The end result is fantastic and has matched the highest expectations, and we are very much looking forward to the building being enjoyed by both staff and students for many years to come.”
