BHN were instructed to look at the feasibility and cost of refurbishing and re-modelling the English Bridge Workshop. The EBW has been in existence for over thirty years operating within a building that is in serious need of repair and renewal.
Accommodation consists of 9 artists studios, Gallery Space, Café, Kitchen, Office, Multi-purpose space, toilets on ground and first floor, storage on ground and first floor.
To enhance its relationship with the local community and attract visitors to the gallery EBW require a small café facility with a dedicated kitchen.
To the rear of the building two new ‘towers’ are proposed. The first contains a new stair and lift. These are accessed directly off the gallery space, they provide a public route to the multi-purpose room on the first floor.
The studio in the ‘pod’ appears to hover over the yard below – providing shelter to a new private entrance to the studios.
