A Georgian hotel converted into a boarding house

Hereford Cathedral School, one of the oldest schools in Britain, wanted to convert an existing hotel into a new boarding house.

The existing site was once part of the How Caple Manor Estate with the main building originally dating back to the 1720s, with large extensions added in the 1850s and 1970s.

The combination of old and new gives this project its distinct identity.  It provides a sustainable solution to a heritage asset in a country setting, while, at the same time offering both contemporary and historical interior spaces.

The converted building includes student accommodation, a nurses bedroom, houseparent accommodation, house tutors flat and overnight staff room. Student accommodation includes single, twin and dorm-style rooms for up to four students.

This project has upgraded and renovated the interior of this while staying true to the original layout and character of the building. In addition the building has been equipped to meet the needs of 21st century living.  It has become a comfortable home for pupils of Hereford Cathedral School, set within a five acre estate, overlooking splendid countryside.
